CGES and EPCG signed the Agreement on the A8 unit for the Hydroelectric Power Plant Perućica

The Executive Directors of Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem and Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, Ivan Asanović and Ivan Bulatović respectively, signed today in Podgorica the Agreement on the construction of the infrastructure for the connection of the A8 unit in the HPP Perućica to the transmission system.

As announced at the event on the occasion of the signing of the Agreement, the machine hall and switchgear of HPP Perućica were constructed for the final phase of the construction of this hydroelectric power plant, which includes the A8 unit.

The eighth aggregate will have a nominal capacity of 58.5 MW, which would increase the installed capacity of the power plant from 307 MW to 365.5 MW, and the flow of the power plant from 68 m³/s to 81.75 m³/s.

“The connection of the A8 unit is another confirmation of the good cooperation between EPCG and CGES. Greater and more efficient use of hydro potential will mean a lot to us in the context of the green energy transition. This is a big step forward in that direction for Montenegro in the Montenegrin electric power industry”, CGES Executive Director Ivan Asanović pointed out.

“Today's signing of the Agreement represents a very important step in the implementation of this significant project, especially in the part of contributing to the valorisation of the Zeta basin, together with the transfer of excess water from the river Zeta to lakes Krupac and Slano. We believe that, in the next two years, we will be able to have the A8 unit on the grid”, EPCG Executive Director Ivan Bulatović said.

The A8 unit will be connected to the third pipeline of the power plant, which is designed to pass the installed flow of 3 x 12.75 m³/s for three units A6, A7 and A8. The scope of the project for the installation of the eighth unit in HPP Perućica includes the design, procurement and installation of electromechanical equipment (turbine, generator, block transformer, excitation, protection, HV equipment, etc.) and execution of construction works on the supply and drainage system of the power plant. The A8 unit installation project will be implemented in cooperation with the German development bank KfW, from which an indicative offer for financing the project was received.

The signing of a loan agreement with the KfW bank in the amount of up to EUR 40 million, which includes the necessary funds in connection with the A8 unit installation project, is expected at the beginning of June 2024, when it is planned to publish a tender for the design, procurement and installation of the necessary electromechanical equipment for the unit.
