Prime Minister Mr Dusko Markovic hosted the management of the Italian company "Terna", headed by the chief executive Mr Luigi Ferraris, on the occasion of the successful completion of works on the submarine power cable project between Montenegro and Italy.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Economy Mrs Dragica Sekulić, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem Mrs Vesna Bracanović and, his Excellency, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Montenegro, Mr Luka Celioli (Luca Zelioli).
Prime Minister Markovic and the Director Mr Ferraris have noted that submarine power cable as a result of partnership between the governments of Montenegro and Italy, would bring full energy security to our country making it regional energy hub and represents a new form of infrastructure connection between the Balkans and the European Union.
"This historic project is the best example of how vision and cooperation bring new value that will benefit both countries and our citizens from, not only our generation, but also the future generation," said Prime Minister Markovic, comparing the project with the construction of our first highway.
Terna CEO has informed the PM that the submarine cable between Montenegro and Italy, is 445 km long, out of which 423 km is a submarine part, worth €1.15 billion and that during the previous cable installation works, it has already produced numerous positive effects in Montenegro. "This project, the greatest of the kind in Meditran, has already instigated some local businesses worth more than € 60 million," said Terna CEO, adding that 120 people worked on the project in Montenegro in different ways.
Prime Minister Markovic has informed Terna's management that several countries of Eastern and South-eastern Europe has expressed their interest in making different arrangements with Montenegro with the aim of utilizing the capacities of the submarine cable, commissioning of which is expected in autumn.
